CAMS: Mentoring Meal with Maria McClay
Hailing from New Jersey born with wanderlust, Maria McClay has spent 20-plus years working across the globe as an advisor, scaler and investor. A leader with organizations such as Google, Gucci and McKinsey, today Maria is ramping up mission-driven consumer brands determined to innovate, with a focus on fashion, sports and design. In addition to building out new consumer businesses, she supports organizations through board and advisory work, investing and with start-up incubators, including the Harvard Innovation and NY Fashion Tech Labs. She currently sits on advisory boards including Textile Exchange and the sustainable off-pitch soccer fashion brand ABLE MADE.
As a former director at Google, Maria launched the Fashion and Beauty Cloud and Digital Marketing commercial teams across the US and UK. Areas of focus included using AI to achieve hyper-personalization, creating sustainable supply chains, and redesigning ‘the store of the future’. She also spearheaded Google’s fashion moonshot to help clothing brands source more responsibly together with organizations including the World Wildlife Federation, Textile Exchange and Stella McCartney. As a thought leader on fashion sustainability, she was invited to speak at the World Expo, the Copenhagen Fashion Summit, New York and British Fashion Weeks and the World Retail Congress. Her work has been profiled in various publications including Vogue, the Business of Fashion and the Financial Times.
Maria’s love of fashion and experience run deep, including nearly a decade at Gucci in senior roles. As General Manager of Northern Europe, she established a new region overseeing nine countries and 100 retail locations. Maria started her career in consulting at McKinsey across New York, San Francisco and Mexico City and as an investment banker. She graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania where she studied history and Harvard Business School.
