Students considering a leave should think through the information we currently we have, weigh their own personal considerations including learning environment and health considerations and they do not have to commit financially until August 30th when the final bill is due. If they want to take a leave after this reflection, they should reach out to their College Contact for next steps in the leave process.
Continuing students may take a leave for the fall 2020 semester and request a return for the spring 2021 semester as long as they are not on academic probation when they take the Leave of Absence. Returning after one semester is considered an early return and might not be approved.
Incoming transfer students may take a leave for the fall 2020 semester, but their first term at Penn must be in a fall semester, so they will not qualify to request return until the fall 2021 semester.
