Students who are beginning to consider a study abroad semester will need to make use of the resources below. It is generally recommended that a student begin to explore study abroad options a full year in advance of the semester in which they would like to be abroad.
Penn Global promotes, assists and coordinates international activities throughout the University of Pennsylvania.
Through Penn Abroad, Penn Global provides information to Penn undergraduates about semester and academic year study abroad and administering Penn Abroad programs, International Student and Scholars Services and administers visas for international students. Consult the Penn Abroad website for a full listing of services and for comprehensive information regarding study abroad.
Penn Abroad 101 is offered by Penn Abroad and is mandatory for all students planning to study abroad.
After attending a session of Penn Abroad 101 and meeting with a Penn Abroad program manager to start the application process, students need to meet with the College advisor (below) who oversees the relevant abroad programs in order to determine academic eligibility, discuss course choices and begin the course approval process. College study abroad advisors counsel students on course schedules and translate course and grade equivalency upon the students return from abroad.

Students who wish to study abroad on a Penn summer program should contact the College of Liberal and Professional Studies.
Students may choose to study abroad in the summer through an institution other than Penn. In order to do so, they must seek prior approval from Penn departments through XCAT in order to transfer their credits. These courses are considered credit away, and the grades will not be calculated into the Penn g.p.a.
