Major in Ancient History

The Ancient History major encourages a comparative approach to the study of premodern cultures beyond the confines of the Mediterranean. The major has a core built around the world of the ancient Mediterranean, but encourages students to study historical systems in a broader context including, for example, the study of ancient cultures from Asia or the Americas.

The major in Ancient History comprises 12 c.u. divided into three clusters:

Cluster 1.

2 c.u. in core classes

ANCH 25 – Ancient Middle Eastern History and Civilization
ANCH 26 – Ancient Greece
ANCH 27 – Ancient Rome

Cluster 2.

4 c.u. in the history of the Graeco-Roman world. (At least 2 c.u. must be at the 200-level or above)

Cluster 3.

6 c.u. taken from the following groupings. At least four of these c.u. must come for one group. (2 c.u. at the 200-level or above)
