Phi Beta Kappa Prizes

Phi Beta Kappa offers two essay prizes, the Elmaleh Prize ($150) for an essay in the social sciences, and the Humanities Prize ($150) for one in the humanities. Decisions are made in the spring, and students should submit their essays for consideration in April; senior theses are ineligible. Students are not required to be members of Phi Beta Kappa in order to receive these awards.

Phi Beta Kappa awards two prizes for outstanding senior theses, also in the spring term. The Frederick W. Meier Jr. Thesis Prize ($500) and the Phi Beta Kappa Thesis Prize ($300) are awarded for the best theses in any field. Students or faculty may nominate a thesis (two copies), which must be accompanied by a letter of endorsement by a faculty advisor. For further information, contact Dr. Janet Tighe, 120 Cohen Hall, 898-6341, jtighe@sas.upenn.edu.
