Careers in the Health Professions

Students interested in a career in the health professions should familiarize themselves with the pre-health section of the Career Services website and make contact with a pre-health advisor in Career Services early in their time at Penn.

Students will find the required courses needed for most medical schools (those for dental schools are very similar) are also listed on that site. The requirements for veterinary schools are more varied and often more extensive; again, information is available online at the Career Services site.

Note that while certain science courses are required, students need not major in one of the natural sciences to study medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine. Moreover, if all the requirements are not satisfied as an undergraduate, it is possible to complete them by taking post-baccalaureate courses.
