Academic Regalia

Purchase your cap and gown from the Penn Bookstore. See information on the College Graduation Ceremony for dates.

• You must wear your cap and gown on Sunday for the College Graduation and on Monday for the University Commencement.
• Please arrive at the ceremonies already robed.
• Put the hood on over your head with the "V" end in front and the velvet side up.
• You may loop the string at the end of the "V" to a button on your shirt or blouse, or you may pin the "V" in place to the front of your robe.
• Attach the cord across the back of the hood to keep the hood from sliding off your shoulders.
• Turn the PENN colors out to show the red and the blue.
• The mortarboard should be worn level on your head and not set back. Put the tassel on the right of the mortarboard until University Commencement on Monday.
