Dr. Dennis DeTurck, Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, Dr. Janet Tighe, Dean of Freshmen and Director of Academic Advising, faculty and students will participate in a discussion about college life.

1:00, 1:30, 2:00 or 2:30 p.m. Weigle Information Commons Tours (U/F)
Entrance Desk, Weigle Information Commons, 1st floor, Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center

The David B. Weigle Information Commons, a joint venture of the School of Arts and Sciences, the Office of the Provost and the Penn Libraries provides innovative spaces to support collaborative work with the latest technologies. The Commons is a central location where students receive support for research, writing, presenting and study strategies. You will explore a videotaping system for helping students practice presentations, high-tech teaching and learning spaces and the Vitale Digital Media Lab where students make movies, edit audio and create animations. You will learn about our partner assistance services and how College of Arts and Sciences courses integrate technology into student learning experiences. 1:00 or 2:00 p.m. Communicating with Confidence: Communication Within the Curriculum (CWiC) Coaching (C)
Class of ‘55 Room, 2nd floor, Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center

Because the ability to express oneself clearly and effectively is essential to success in any field and is a hallmark of civic engagement, the College provides CWiC speaking advisors. Advisors conduct one-on-one coaching sessions and facilitate workshops. During this session, speaking advisors will provide a sample of a CWiC workshop. CWiC is a Weigle programming partner. 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Study Like a Genius: How Leonardo Da Vinci Would Study at Penn (C)
Meyerson Room, 2nd floor, Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center

This interactive workshop will apply Da Vinci’s seven principles to academic reading, studying, and thinking. Presented by the Weingarten Learning Resources Center (VPUL), a Weigle programming partner, this workshop also provides an introduction to resources for learning and academic support at Penn. (Limit 30 guests.)

1:30 – 2:30 p.m. You’re Majoring In WHAT!? (C)
Bodek Lounge, Houston Hall, 3417 Spruce Street

A broad foundation in the arts and sciences prepares students best for the wide-ranging career challenges they’ll face after Penn. Come hear successful College alumni discuss the impact of their choice of majors on their diverse career paths. College of Arts and Sciences Academic Advisors and Career Counselors will join in the discussion.

2:00 – 2:30 p.m. Student-Created Videos (C)
Class of 1968 Seminar Room, Weigle Information Commons, 1st floor, VanPelt-Dietrich Library Center

Join us for a showing of student created “mashup” films and a discussion of how video creation is becoming the assignment of choice for many undergraduate courses. We will show clips from winning entries of annual mashup contests from the past three years. (Limit 30 guests.)

3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Image and Graphic Editing (C)
Goldstein Electronic Classroom, 1st floor, Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center

Explore technology available to students for videoconferencing via the Internet and playful exploration of photographs. Hands-on demos will provide a glimpse into new media technologies. (Limit 30 guests.)

The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences invites all Penn students and families to join College faculty and staff for brunch. (Limit 500 guests.)
