Penn is an academically challenging environment in which you will be encouraged to learn independently and think for yourself. Penn is also an academically supportive place, where there exists help around every corner should you need it to assist you in meeting the challenges of your courses and assignments. Here are just a few of the structures in place to help you during your time here:
The Weingarten Learning Resources Center provides professional instructional support in a variety of study and learning strategies. As an example, a student may come to the Center to learn new methods for notetaking in large lecture courses, hone reading strategies for different kinds of texts, or maximize test taking skills. Through individual and group instruction, students also develop their own methods for managing time and avoiding procrastination.
Peers provide an important source of academic help at Penn. The Tutoring Center offers both individual and group sessions to supplement classroom learning. Peer advisors from the CWiC program (Communication within the Curriculum) will help you to improve your speaking and presentation skills. Expert writing help is available at any stage of composition through the Writing Center. The College House system provides additional opportunities for academic advice through its Wheel Project.
